This is the classic trifold makeup mirror: a rectangular center panel flanked by two wings, on a white base with an adjustable back stand that sets at 11 angles. The wings fold in when you are done, so it takes up little room on a dresser. You get 1x for your whole face and 5x for close work.

The four light presets are the reason I keep recommending it: day, evening, office and home. Checking a foundation match under office light before you leave the house is a habit I teach everyone, and this mirror builds it in. How I Chose These Budget Mirrors

A budget mirror has to earn its place on less. Each of these went through my own routine, and I kept only the ones that get the basics right:

Light you can adjust. At least brightness control, ideally color modes or presets so you can check makeup in warm and cool light.
A useful magnification mix. A low side for the whole face and a stronger one for detail, with the maker's working distance given.
Power that suits the room. Rechargeable or battery for desks without an outlet, plug-in for a dresser that stays put.
Details that matter in a small space. Height adjustment, storage, folding wings or a folding handle.

I also favored mirrors that are easy to return through Amazon if they do not suit you. On a small budget, that safety net matters.

What You Give Up at the Budget End

Cheap lighted mirrors have improved a lot, but you should know the trade-offs before you buy.

Battery life, or a cord

Rechargeable picks dim as the charge runs down, and you will be charging every week or so. The plug-in trifolds stay bright but tie you to an outlet. Mid-range mirrors often give you a corded light that never fades, or a battery that lasts weeks.

Smaller glass

Most round faces here are around 8 to 9 inches. You see your face, but the magnified area is small. Larger pedestal and three-panel mirrors, with 10x areas big enough for a whole eye and brow, are in my full lighted makeup mirror picks.

Color accuracy you cannot always check

Only the MOMOKUBA states a CRI figure. The rest give color modes or presets but no number, so you cannot be sure how true the light is. If you match foundation for a living, spend more.

Magnification as a selling point

20x and 30x sound impressive, but they force you within a few inches of the glass. For most makeup, 5x to 10x is more comfortable. My guide to what magnification a makeup mirror should be explains why.

Build and bathroom use

Lighter frames, plastic parts and short or unstated warranties are normal at this price. At least one maker here warns against bathroom humidity. If the mirror will live near a shower, choose a metal frame and keep it away from steam.

Is a 20X magnification mirror too much?

For a full face of makeup, yes. A 20x mirror only stays sharp within about 3 to 5 inches, so you see one eye or a few brow hairs at a time. It is useful for contact lenses, lash application, splinters and fine tweezing, or if your close vision is weak. For blending and everyday makeup, a 1x side plus 5x to 10x is easier. What is a good vanity mirror with lights for a dorm?

Choose a rechargeable mirror, because dorm desks rarely have a free outlet in the right spot, and a stable base that will not tip on a busy desk. A 1x and 10x pair covers everyday makeup and brows. Can I use a cheap lighted makeup mirror in the bathroom?
