Best Large Wall Mirrors: Sizes, Frames and Safe Hanging

On this page
A large wall mirror does more for a room than almost any other single piece: it doubles the light from a window, makes a narrow hall feel wider and fills the blank wall over a sofa or a console. It also weighs twenty pounds or more, which is why the hanging hardware matters as much as the frame. This page compares seven large wall mirrors from 36 by 48 to 60 by 36 inches, on the frame, the glass, the stated weight and how each one goes on the wall.
The specs come from each published listing, and where a listing leaves something out, the table says Not stated. If you want a mirror with more character than size, my decorative mirrors page covers sunburst, windowpane and statement frames, and if you want to see yourself head to toe, the full-length floor mirrors page is the better fit.

Best Large Wall Mirrors Compared
Sizes are width by height in inches, as each listing gives them. All seven hang either horizontally or vertically except the arched BEAUTYPEAK, which only works one way up. Weights are the listing's own figures where it gives one.

Large Wall Mirror Reviews
Sizes, frames, glass, weights and hardware below come from the makers' and sellers' published listings. I compared those details against each other and against what it takes to hang a big mirror safely, and I say plainly when a listing leaves something out.
Editor's choice · Best Overall
LOAAO 48x36 Inch Black Bathroom Mirror Metal Framed | Matte Black, Rounded Rectangle, Anti-Rust, Tempered Glass, Hangs Horizontally or Vertically
- Mid-range
- Size (in) 48 x 36
- Frame Aluminum, rounded corners
- Glass 4mm tempered
- Hanging hardware Two Z-bar brackets
This is the large wall mirror I would point most people to first. At 48 by 36 inches it is big enough to anchor a wall over a sofa or a dresser, and the matte black frame with rounded corners suits modern, farmhouse and industrial rooms alike.
The build is right for the size. The glass is 4mm tempered, described as shatter-proof, and the frame is aluminum alloy, which does not rust, so it can go in a bathroom as well as a living room. The listing describes the glass as HD float glass for a clear, undistorted reflection.
The best detail is the hardware. Two Z-bar brackets come in the box, which hold a mirror this size flatter and more securely than a single wire. The one gap is the weight: the listing does not give it, so ask before you choose your anchors.
What I like
- 4mm tempered glass in an aluminum frame
- Two Z-bar brackets included
- Hangs horizontally or vertically
- Rust-resistant frame suits a bathroom too
Keep in mind
- Weight not stated in the listing
- Matte black only on this listing
Best Gold Frame
Keonjinn 48 x 36 Inch Brushed Gold Bathroom Vanity Mirror, Tempered Glass | Brass Bathroom Mirrors for over Sink, Anti-Rust Aluminum Frame, Rounded Rectangle, French Cleat Mount, Clear Reflection
- Mid-range
- Size (in) 48 x 36
- Frame Aluminum, rounded corners
- Glass 4mm tempered
- Weight About 26 lb
If your faucets, lights or door handles are brass, a gold frame ties the wall together, and this Keonjinn is the one I would choose. The frame is brushed gold aluminum with rounded corners, the glass is 4mm tempered, and the listing offers matte white and matte black too if gold is not your room.
It is mounted on a French cleat built into the back, which the listing says holds more securely than glued-on brackets and lets the mirror sit closer to the wall. I like cleats on big mirrors for exactly that reason: the weight rests on a long rail rather than on two small points, and it is easy to level.
At about 26 pounds it is the heaviest stated weight on this page, so find the studs first. Keonjinn also packs it in four layers with corner guards, which is worth something on a mirror this size.
What I like
- French cleat mount sits close to the wall
- 4mm tempered glass
- Four frame colors on the listing
- Corner guards in the packaging
Keep in mind
- About 26 pounds, the heaviest stated weight here
- Gold shows fingerprints more than matte black
Best Wood Frame
WallBeyond 36" x 48" Wood Bathroom Mirror for Wall Mounted, Rustic Rounded Corner Wood Frame Wall Mirror for Entryway, Living Room or Bedroom Home Decorative, Natural
- Mid-range
- Size (in) 36 x 48
- Frame Solid wood
- Glass Safety film backing
- Weight About 20 lb
A wood frame softens a big mirror, and this WallBeyond is the one I would pick for a farmhouse, Scandinavian or rustic room. The frame is described as solid wood, handcrafted, with rounded corners, and the mirror is 36 by 48 inches with a stated weight of about 20 pounds.
Safety is well covered. The glass has a scatter-prevention, explosion-proof membrane, so if it is struck, the pieces stay on the film rather than falling out. The silver backing is copper free with an anti-rust treatment, which helps prevent the dark edges you see on old mirrors.
It hangs from four D-rings, so it works in portrait or landscape. The listing explains how to measure between the centers of the two clasps and mark the wall, and that is the step to take your time over. For a damp bathroom, I would choose a metal frame instead.
What I like
- Solid wood frame with rounded corners
- Safety film backing keeps broken glass in place
- Four D-rings for portrait or landscape
- Copper-free silver backing with anti-rust treatment
Keep in mind
- Wood is a poor match for a steamy bathroom
- D-rings need careful measuring on the wall
Best Arched Wall Mirror
BEAUTYPEAK 36"x48" Arch Bathroom Wall Mirror, Silver | Wall Mounted Vanity Metal Frame Mirror for Bedroom, Entryway, Living Room, Fireplace
- Mid-range
- Size (in) 36 x 48, arched top
- Frame Aluminum
- Glass Shatter-proof stated
- Weight About 23 lb
An arch draws the eye up, which makes a ceiling feel higher, and this BEAUTYPEAK brings that shape to a large wall mirror. It is 36 inches wide and 48 inches tall, in a brushed silver aluminum frame that the listing calls rust-proof, with shatter-proof glass.
At about 23 pounds, it is a natural fit over a fireplace, a console in the entryway or a dresser, where a rectangle can look a little flat. The listing also suggests it as a bathroom vanity mirror, and the aluminum frame makes that reasonable.
Unlike the rectangles here, an arch only works with the curve at the top, so measure the wall height first. The listing does not describe the hanging hardware, so ask the seller what is on the back. If you want an arch tall enough to see your whole body, my arched full length mirrors page covers those.
What I like
- Arched crown shape adds height to a wall
- Rust-proof aluminum frame
- Shatter-proof glass stated
- Works over a mantel or a console
Keep in mind
- Only hangs one way up
- Hanging hardware not described in the listing
Best Extra Large
SMIROR 60x36 Matte Black Bathroom Vanity Mirror for Over Sink | Metal Wide Frame, Rectangle, Right- Angle Corner, Anti-Rust, Horizontally or Vertically Wall- Mounted for Home Remodel
- Mid-range
- Size (in) 60 x 36
- Frame Aluminum, 2 in wide
- Glass Tempered
- Hanging hardware Two French cleats
When a wall is long, a 48 inch mirror can look lost. This SMIROR is 60 by 36 inches, the biggest on this page, and it is the one I would look at over a long sofa, a sideboard or a double vanity. The frame is 2 inch matte black aluminum with square corners, a bolder line than the thin frames above.
It comes with two French cleats, which is what I want to see on a mirror this wide: two rails share the load and keep the mirror level along its whole length. The glass is tempered, and the listing says you can hang it horizontally or vertically, or lean it against the wall.
The same listing runs from 16 to 72 inches in more than 20 sizes, so if 60 is too much, you can size down in the same style. The weight is not stated, so ask before you buy anchors, and plan on two people to lift it into place.
What I like
- Five feet wide, the largest mirror here
- Two French cleats included
- Tempered glass in a 2 inch aluminum frame
- Listed in more than 20 sizes, from 16 to 72 inches
Keep in mind
- Weight not stated
- A two-person job to hang
Best for Narrow Walls and Leaning
Koonmi Black Bathroom Mirror for Over Sink,Metal Framed 30"x50" Wall Mirror
- Mid-range
- Size (in) 30 x 50
- Frame Anodized aluminum
- Glass 4mm tempered
- Weight About 18 lb
Not every wall is wide. Between two doors, in a hallway or beside a wardrobe, a tall narrow mirror fits better, and this Koonmi does that well. It is 30 by 50 inches in a slim matte black frame of anodized aluminum, with 4mm tempered glass and a stated weight of about 18 pounds.
It is also the most flexible on the page. The listing says it hangs horizontally or vertically through four pre-drilled holes, or simply leans against a wall or a wardrobe. A leaning mirror is easy to move and needs no drilling, which suits renters.
If you lean it, stop it from sliding. My guide to securing a leaning mirror covers the anti-slip pads and wall straps I would use. At 50 inches it shows most of you, but for a true full-length view, a floor mirror is the better tool.
What I like
- Tall 30 by 50 inch shape for narrow walls
- 4mm tempered glass
- Hang it either way or lean it
- Four pre-drilled holes in the frame
Keep in mind
- Not tall enough to see your full height
- Leaning needs an anti-slip plan
Best Budget
Amazon Basics Rectangular Wall Mount Mirror for Bedroom, Living Room, Entryway, Wide Trim, 24" x 36", White
- Budget
- Size (in) 24 x 36
- Frame Polystyrene
- Weight About 11 lb
- Hanging hardware Metal brackets
If you want a big mirror on a small budget, or a wall that cannot take much weight, this is the one. At 24 by 36 inches it is the smallest here and sits at the lower edge of what I call large, but it is also the lightest at about 11 pounds, which makes it the easiest to hang on plaster or in a rental.
The frame is a wide trim in lightweight polystyrene with a nickel or mirror finish, and the listing says metal mounting brackets and hardware come in the box, so there is nothing else to buy. It hangs in portrait or landscape.
The trade-offs are honest ones. Polystyrene is plastic, so it will not feel like metal or wood up close, and the listing does not say what the glass is. For an entryway or a bedroom, it does the job of making the room brighter for the least outlay.
What I like
- Lightest mirror here at about 11 pounds
- Metal brackets and hardware included
- Hangs horizontally or vertically
- The lowest price tier on this page
Keep in mind
- The smallest size here, at the lower edge of large
- Polystyrene frame, not metal or wood
- Glass type not stated
How I Chose These Large Wall Mirrors
- Real size. I started at 24 by 36 inches and gave most places to mirrors of 36 by 48 inches or more.
- Safe glass. Tempered glass or a safety film backing counts strongly in favor on a mirror this big.
- Hardware in the box. French cleats and Z-bar brackets rank above a single wire, and a listing that names its hardware ranks above one that does not.
- A stated weight. You cannot choose anchors without it, so I note every listing that leaves it out.
- Price tiers, not prices. Prices change daily, so I give you tiers and send you to the live listing.
Large Wall Mirror Buying Guide
How Big Is Large?
Retailers use large loosely. I treat anything from about 24 by 36 inches as large, 36 by 48 inches as the common size for over a sofa or dresser, and 60 inches or wider as extra large. Above that, most mirrors become floor mirrors that lean rather than hang.
Size It to the Furniture Below
A common decorating rule of thumb is to choose a mirror about two thirds the width of the furniture under it. Over an 84 inch sofa, that points to a mirror of about 56 inches, so the SMIROR 60x36 or a 48 inch mirror hung in landscape. Over a 36 inch console, a 24 to 30 inch width looks balanced. For a bathroom, size from the vanity instead, using my bathroom mirror size calculator.
Portrait or Landscape
Hang a rectangle in portrait to make a ceiling feel taller and in landscape to make a wall feel wider. Six of the seven here can go either way. Over a long piece of furniture, landscape almost always looks better. In a narrow hall or between doors, portrait wins.
How High to Hang It
Over furniture, leave about 6 to 10 inches between the top of the piece and the bottom of the frame, so the two read as one group. On an open wall, the gallery convention is to put the center of the mirror at about 57 to 60 inches from the floor. My mirror height guide covers bathroom heights.
Frame Material
Aluminum is light, rust-proof and right for bathrooms. Wood is warmer but dislikes steam. Polystyrene keeps the price and weight down but looks like what it is up close. Match the frame finish to the metal already in the room, such as faucets, lamp bases or cabinet pulls.
Hardware and Walls
Find the studs before you buy anything. A French cleat is the easiest way to hang a heavy mirror level, because the mirror drops onto a rail. Z-bar brackets work the same way. D-rings need two points measured exactly. For drywall without a stud, use anchors rated for well above the mirror's weight. My guide to hanging a mirror without hooks covers the no-drill options for lighter mirrors only.
What It Will Reflect
Before you drill, hold the mirror where it will go, or tape its outline on the wall, and look at what it reflects. A window or a lamp doubles the light. A cluttered shelf doubles the clutter. My mirror placement guide covers the room-by-room traditions, if you follow them.
Yes, if the hardware goes into wall studs, or into anchors whose package rating is well above 50 pounds. A French cleat spreads the load along a rail, which helps. Never rely on drywall alone with a nail or a light hook, and never use adhesive strips on a mirror of that weight.
On an open wall, the usual convention is to put the center of the mirror about 57 to 60 inches from the floor, roughly eye level. Over furniture, the furniture sets the height instead: leave about 6 to 10 inches between the top of the piece and the bottom of the frame.
For a truly large mirror, the safest no-drill option is not to hang it: lean it against the wall on anti-slip pads, with a strap to the wall if children or pets are around. Adhesive hooks and strips are made for much lighter loads, so check the rating and keep them for small mirrors.
Over a sofa or a console, pick a mirror about two thirds the width of the furniture, which for most sofas means 48 to 60 inches wide. On an open wall, a 36 by 48 inch mirror is a safe middle size. Tape the outline to the wall first to see how it reads.
Not if you choose the weight and the fixing together. A light mirror of around 11 pounds, like the Amazon Basics, needs only small holes. Heavier mirrors are better leaned on anti-slip pads. Ask your landlord before drilling into studs, and fill the holes when you move out.
